Steeplejack West

Type: Brewery and Restaurant Year: 2022

Production brewery and taproom for a company founded in a century-old northeast Portland church. The spatial logic of a cathedral organizes the industrial volume with the brewery tanks lined front-and-center upon entry, evoking a pipe-organ aesthetic with the brewhouse as its altar. A chapel-like bar with a direct-draw beer tap system anchors the room and humanizes the scale of the industrial facility with a mirrored sheen metal canopy ceiling. Reclaimed wood salvaged from Steeplejack's original church location was put to use in the banquettes and tables populating the pub, tying the story of this Hillsboro brewery back to its roots in a history of communion and gathering.
