Steeplejack Manzanita

Type: Hospitality, Lodging, Restaurant, Mixed-use Year: 2022

An unbuilt concept for a mixed-use Steeplejack Brewing destination in Manzanita, a small village on the north Oregon coast. The design fits a lively mix of uses onto a compact double lot on Laneda Avenue, splitting the program between two buildings scaled to the village’s modest streetscape. A two-story restaurant and taphouse anchors the site, while an ice cream shop and arcade at the west end share a rooftop deck meant as a casual hangout for locals and visitors. A three-unit boutique hotel sits behind the street-facing storefronts, set back from the activity of the street. Exposed cross-laminated timber floors bring warmth to the interiors, and bespoke stained glass details nod to Steeplejack’s roots in a century-old Portland church. On Manzanita’s main street and a short walk from the beach, the project was conceived to tie the downtown blocks on either side into one continuous, walkable place.

Work completed while at Scott Edwards Architecture.
